Celtic update on permanent deals for Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers

Following a disappointing 2020/21 season, Celtic needed something extraordinary to turn the tide. They needed to make some significant signings in the summer. And it came in the shape of permanent signings as well as loan moves, with the Hoops bringing in Jota from Benfica and Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur on season-long loan deals.

Both players have flourished in Scotland under the management of Ange Postecoglou this season. Jota has been an absolute revelation going forward, both scoring and assisting with equal ease.

On the other hand, Carter-Vickers has emerged as a rock at the back for The Hoops. His rock-solid defending, coupled with the quality that he possesses aerially from attacking set-pieces, has somewhat inspired Celtic in the race for the Premiership this term. It was his goal that made all the difference between them and the Rangers at Ibrox earlier this month.

Now, Celtic are believed to want to sign Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers on permanent deals, with the club having an option to buy included in both deals. Can they pull it off though?

Postecoglou gives update on Celtic deals for Jota and Carter-Vickers

As revealed by Postecoglou, it will be the club’s chief executive, Michael Nicholson, who is in charge of potential permanent deals for Jota and Carter-Vickers, and ‘discussions are ongoing’. As reported by The Scotsman, the manager said,

“The last thing in their minds is next year as they see the possibilities of what we can do this year. Michael is in charge of that aspect, the discussions are ongoing.

“For all of us I guarantee you that if we continue like we are with our success this year then nobody is going to be unhappy.”

Postecoglou has kept his cards close to his chest, as he has been known to do. There is some optimism to be taken from the fact though that there are discussions are ongoing.

If Celtic were able to sign either of the two, it would be considered as a decent outcome. If they were able to sign both Jota and Carter-Vickers on permanent deals, it would be a superb job on the part of he club.
