Barry Ferguson makes unexpected Celtic admission

Celtic are very much in the driver’s seat when it comes to the Premiership title race right now. They have a six point lead with five more league games to go, which includes a Glasgow Derby at Parkhead. Thus, while there is a lot of work left to be done, Ange Postecoglou’s side must be confident of their chances of lifting the title going into the post-split fixtures. Of course, there is no place for complacency though.

The five teams that Celtic will face in the coming weeks are the Rangers, Hearts, Motherwell, Dundee United and Ross County.

One thing that must be cause for a lot of confidence is the fact that Celtic have won the past two Glasgow Derbies, 3-0 at Parkhead and 2-1 at Ibrox. And one could argue that they have outplayed the Rangers in all three of them this season, even though the Hoops lost the first one.

Even former Rangers star, Barry Ferguson, does not sound optimistic of the Ibrox side’s chances of turning it around. As reported by the Scottish Daily Express, he said on The Go Radio Football Show:

“In terms of the title at this moment in time, it’s going to be so difficult for Rangers.

“Five games to go, six points behind.

“What Rangers need to do is concentrate on each game as it comes, Europa League on Thursday, Scottish Cup on Sunday against Celtic, just winning games of football and hope that Celtic at some stage falter.

“But if I’m being brutally honest, I can’t see that happening with the sort of form Celtic are in.”

As mentioned earlier, there is still a long way to go in the title race. But at this point of time, one has to consider Celtic as the favourites to win the Premiership from here on forward. Of course, anything can happen in football.

After losing three of their first six league games, Postecoglou’s side have not lost a single domestic game though. On the other hand, the Rangers’ league form has fallen pretty flat since the turn of the year. Coming out of the winter break, they were the ones with the six point lead.

Let’s see how things play out from here on. But if Celtic can win the title, after finishing 25 points behind the Rangers last season, it would be an incredible achievement.
