Ange Postecoglou opens up about new contract at Celtic

Ange Postecoglou deserves the world of credit for the job that he has done at Celtic till now. When the manager arrived in the summer, many had viewed his appointment as a panic move on the part of the Hoops after they had failed to bring in Eddie Howe, after being linked with him for months. On top of that, he had a mountain to climb, with the club having finished 25 points behind the Rangers and trophyless in the previous campaign.

Celtic had to undergo a summer squad overhaul as well, with twelve new players arriving while key stars like Scott Brown, Ryan Christie, Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and others left.

It was not an ideal position to be in for any manager, especially one who was managing his first top flight club in European football. Yet Postecoglou has been magnificent, guiding Celtic to the Scottish League Cup and they appear to be closing in on the Premiership as well.

Some rumours have been doing the rounds about Postecoglou’s contract situation at the club over the past few days. It appears that that is the last thing on his mind at the moment though. As reported by the Daily Record, the manager said:

“The last thing I want to do is talk to chairmen or to Dermot or anyone about my position.

“As managers we just get on with it. Usually when you have to talk to people involved it’s because you’re worried about your position.

“I’m quite comfortable with the way things are going, I’m really happy and enjoying the role.

“I still have a helluva lot to accomplish as we are at the first stage of the rebuild.

“Until they tap me on the shoulder and tell me the road’s going elsewhere then I will keep doing what I’m doing and be happy about it.”

Postecoglou opens up on new contract at Celtic

It is believed that Postecoglou is currently on a rolling 12-month deal at Celtic and there have been calls from the fans to hand him a new, long-term deal.

That might be in the best interest of the club as well. With the way that things are going, it is very possible that Premier League clubs might have their eyes on Postecoglou.

We have seen both Brendan Rodgers and Steven Gerrard go from managing in the Scottish Premiership to the Premier League in recent years. Thus, one cannot rule out that possibility.
