Fraser Forster’s incredible Celtic claim despite turning down move

Fraser Forster has an interesting history with Celtic to say the least. There is no question that he was fantastic for the club during both his stints at Parkhead and most fans recognise him as one of the best goalkeepers that they have seen play for the Hoops. But at the same time, the manner of his exit the second time around did leave a bitter taste in the mouths of many supporters.

Forster had returned to Celtic on a season-long loan from Southampton in the summer of 2019 and played a big part in their successes. The club then tried to bring him back for the following campaign as well but it emerged that the Englishman turned down the chance.

Celtic would go on to sign Vasilis Barkas from AEK Athens instead and we all know how things turned out from there.

But despite turning down the chance to return to Celtic, Forster has admitted that he will be a supporter for life. As reported by the Daily Record, while speaking with Sky Sports about the recent Glasgow Derby, he said:

“I did watch it, I watch all of them. I loved my time at Celtic and I will be a supporter for life. It’s a huge result.”

Now, it is understandable why fans were disappointed when Forster turned down a chance to return to be a part of the 10IAR campaign.

But at the same time, he is a professional footballer and one has to consider that as well. Eventually, his decision to remain at Southampton has paid off and he is once again the first choice goalkeeper for the Saints.

On the other hand, Celtic pulled off a transfer masterstroke this summer by signing Joe Hart from Tottenham Hotspur. Not only has the Manchester City legend proven to be a great goalkeeper for the Hoops but he has been an incredible leader as well.
