Celtic close in on title as Rangers suffer another massive blow

Celtic’s 2-1 win away at Ibrox against the Rangers meant that they are now firmly in the driver’s seat in the Premiership title race. With six more league games to go, Ange Postecoglou’s side have a commanding 6-point lead. And they will have a psychological edge over Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team as well, having beaten them in the last two Glasgow Derbies, home and away.

Coming out of the winter break, the Rangers held a 6-point lead of their own. But there has been a massive 12-point swing since then, which has left Celtic as the favourites.

Of course, it is not over yet and there is still a long way to go, especially with a Glasgow Derby still to be played in the league. But things are not looking up for the Rangers at the moment.

Van Bronckhorst’s side have suffered another massive blow. As reported by Sky Sports, Alfredo Morelos has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a thigh injury. That means that he will not only miss the Glasgow Derby in the league but the Scottish Cup semi-final as well.

Now, it goes without saying that Morelos’ record against Celtic is nothing to write home about. But there is no denying that he is key for the Rangers and arguably their best player.

Thus, his absence will not only have an impact on their upcoming Glasgow Derbies, but the rest of their games as well, including in the Europa League.

As a result, considering the circumstances surrounding Ibrox, one has to feel that Celtic have take one more step closer to the Premiership title although they must have all their focus on themselves and not on what is happening with the Rangers.
