Celtic player suffers injury blow on international duty

Celtic’s Achilles’ Heel this season has been their injuries. Several key players have had to spend time on the sidelines and it is remarkable that despite that, the club are still in the running for a potential treble, with a three point lead over the Rangers and a Scottish Cup semi-final coming up against Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side. But before that, they will have to take care of the Glasgow Derby at Ibrox, set to be played after the international break.

A lot will be riding on the result of this game. A win would be a huge result for Celtic, and even a draw would be great. On the other hand, a draw would wipe off their 3 point lead at the top and bring things level.

Heading into the game, Celtic have been handed an injury worry though, something that they would have been hoping to avoid.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Stephen Welsh could be a doubt for the Glasgow Derby with a groin injury that forced him off after the break in the recent Scotland Under-21s game.

Welsh injury hands Celtic worry before game vs Rangers

Welsh has not been a first-team regular this season, with Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt forming a formidable duo in the heart of defence. But the Celtic graduate has been the back-up option to them throughout the course of the campaign.

If he is not available, it will decrease the options that Ange Postecoglou has going into arguably the biggest game of Celtic’s season.

Christopher Jullien is now back amongst the mix but he has featured only once, as a substitute, since his return from injury. Thus, he does not seem like a brilliant option at this point of time, considering the magnitude of the game. Let’s wait for further updates on the Welsh situation though.
