Ben Doak broke into the Celtic first-team picture recently and even featured as a late substitute in the game against the Rangers, which ended in a 3-0 win for Ange Postecoglou’s side. Still just 16 years of age, it is safe to say that the fans would have bee hoping to see a lot more of the youngster over the coming years, but now, it looks like he could be headed out of Parkhead soon.

Rumours have emerged that Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign Doak from Celtic. While a fan of the club, it looks like the opportunity to move to Anfield and play under the management of Jurgen Klopp, might be too good to turn down for the youngster.

Thus, it looks like the name of Doak could soon be added to a quickly growing list of highly-rated youngsters, who have left Celtic before ever making a real mark on the first-team.

Amidst the reports of Doak being headed to Liverpool, as reported by The Scottish Sun, Postecoglou said:

“I’ve said all along my role is to look after the footballers that want to be here. The footballers that don’t want to be here? There’s another avenue there for them.

“When you look at the starting line-up against Dundee United there were a few boys who started out as ball boys for our club.

“You can’t tell me they haven’t had careers – they’ve represented their country, they’ve won trophies.”

Doak could leave Celtic and join Liverpool soon

There is no question about the talent or potential that Doak has. The fact that he has already managed to break into the Celtic first-team picture at 16 years of age is proof of that.

While the club’s recent record of bringing through youngsters into the first-team from the youth ranks is not great, it does feel like if Doak stayed on and developed like he is expected to, he could go on to become a major fixture in this Celtic team one day.

But it looks like he might be headed out of Parkhead in the very near future. At the end of the day, it is his decision and we can only wish him the best of luck, if he feels that he will get better opportunities elsewhere.
