Ange Postecoglou delivers massive Celtic injury update

Celtic’s biggest problem this season has been the number of injuries that their players have suffered through the course of the season. When they had signed Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi, Matt O’Riley and Johnny Kenny in the January transfer window, they must have been hoping that they had added enough depth to avoid such problems. But as luck would have it, that has not been the case.

In fact, Kyogo Furuhashi had been injured on Boxing Day, against St Johnstone And David Turnbull had been forced off the pitch a week before that, in the Scottish League Cup final against Hibernian.

Neither player has featured since then. And while results have been decent for Celtic for the most part, since their return from the winter break, they could do with the return of two of their key players.

There appears to be mixed news on that front, with Turnbull closing in on a return but Kyogo still some distance away. As reported by the Daily Record, Ange Postecoglou said:

“Turnbull is almost back training, but Kyogo is nowhere near it.”

Celtic handed Turnbull boost but Kyogo blow

It is safe to say that the situation is far from ideal. Celtic are very much in the middle of a title race right now. And even though they might have a lead at this moment, it is just three points, and can be overturned by a bad result or two.

The Rangers will know that very well. They had a 6-point lead coming out of the winter break but find themselves chasing Celtic a little over a month later.

That is how quickly things can change in football. Thus, the likes of Kyogo and Turnbull returning would be massive boosts for Celtic in their quest to stay where they are, at the top of the table. And while there is good news on one front, there is worry on another.
