Why Josip Juranovic was left out of Celtic squad revealed

The Celtic squad selection for the away match at Pittodrie Stadium against Aberdeen surprised many and caused a new concern for fans. There was no sign of in form full-back, Josip Juranovic. Right at the time there were rumours that Brendan Rodgers could be interested in a swoop for the Croatian star next summer, he was left completely out of the Hoops’ matchday squad for an important game.

It was an unexpected absence as there had been no mention of an injury leading up to the game. When Anthony Ralston was named in the starting line up and there was no sign of Juranovic on the bench, it raised a lot of doubts about what the reason was behind the Croatian international’s absence.

While Ralston has done a great job as well, it does feel like Juranovic is just ahead of him at the moment and is the club’s best right-back.

Postecoglou, however, provided some reassurance over the Juranovic situation as it looks like it is nothing long-term. As reported by Football Scotland, the manager said:

“He’s got an illness mate.

“[He’ll be back at] the weekend, hopefully, and if not he will definitely be back for the midweek fixture next week.”

Postecoglou provides Celtic injury update on Juranovic

We have already seen that Postecoglou prefers not to speak about injuries in great detail during media conferences and prefers to keep his cards close to his chest, which have allowed him to spring a selection surprise from time to time.

And while fans might be eager to get exact injury updates on the players, we may all need to get used to Postecoglou’s way of dealing with fitness issues and recognise the positives that come with it.

At the moment, the club have several key players like Kyogo, David Turnbull, Yosuke Ideguchi and others also missing, on top of Juranovic, and it will be interesting to see when they eventually return. All we can do is hope of the best at this point of time.
