Matt O’Riley: Celtic staff hailed ‘sensational’ after what Campbell ‘watched’

Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on the “sensational” recruitment team at Celtic for signing Matt O’Riley.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said the 21-year-old was “a really good spot” from the Hoops.

O’Riley has starred for Ange Postecoglou’s side since joining from MK Dons in January.

The centre-midfielder scored his first goal for the Glasgow giants in Wednesday night’s 3-2 win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

He also boasted 85 per cent pass accuracy, two key passes, two interceptions and one clearance over the course of the match. [WhoScored]

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on O’Riley’s impact, Campbell said: “O’Riley was a really good spot from Celtic.

“Their recruitment team has been sensational. They have gone in directions that not many others have looked and it is paying dividends. They’ve done excellent.

“The new players have really jump-started their season. I watched them on Sunday and they were fantastic. They went about the game in the right way and won convincingly.

“Fair play to everybody at Celtic on the recruitment side of things. They’ve done it in the right way.”

Speaking shortly after O’Riley’s arrival last month, Postecoglou said: “He’s a talented player and I had a good chat to the lad, so he will fit in really well.

“From my perspective, once I knew it could be done then I was really keen.”
