Celtic include surprise clause in Osaze Urhoghide’s loan deal

Osaze Urhoghide has departed Celtic on a loan deal till the end of the season to join Belgian side, KV Oostende. That would not come as a shock to anyone after the defender had struggled to break into Ange Postecoglou’s first-team since joining the Hoops in the summer. The destination is not unfamiliar either, as Jack Hendry had been sent their on a temporary basis last season although, it did end up becoming permanent.

Urhoghide was the first signing of the Postecoglou era at Celtic and had arrived with a lot of expectations after a solid time at Sheffield Wednesday. He has not found the going as smooth at Parkhead though.

He had to wait till the month of December to make his debut for Celtic. It was against Real Betis in the Europa League group and to be honest, he did put in a very good performance against the side currently sitting at 3rd in the La Liga table. He has not made an appearance since.

Thus, the loan move makes sense for Urhoghide. What is surprising though is the fact that Celtic have included an option to buy in his deal after the events of the summer involving Hendry. KV Oostende’s official website confirmed that the club have a purchase option.

Celtic include surprise clause in Urhoghide’s loan deal

Hendry had developed significantly during his loan spell at KV Oostende and the Belgian club would take their option to buy in the summer.

It was in the same transfer window though that Club Brugge ended up signing Hendry and he has impressed since then as well, even playing in the Champions League.

Thus, it is surprising that Celtic have included the option in the loan deal for Urhoghide as well and it remains to be seen how this one turns out for the Hoops.
