Massive update on potential Vasilis Barkas Celtic exit

Vasilis Barkas has struggled to make an impact at Celtic ever since joining the club last summer from AEK Athens for a transfer fee believed to be around £4.5 million. The Greek international had impressed immensely during his time in Greece and was expected to make a mark for the Hoops as well. But it is pretty clear that he has found the going tough at Parkhead and as a result, an exit might not be far away.

It had looked earlier this month that Sheffield United was his next potential destination but that loan move did not end up transpiring.

As a result, as we enter the final few days of the January transfer window, Barkas still finds himself at Celtic, although his chances of breaking into the first-team picture in Ange Postecoglou’s side anytime soon are slim at best.

There might yet be a possibility that Barkas could depart this month though. As reported by Sports Room (via Daily Record), a mystery Swedish club hope to seal a loan move in the coming days.

Massive update on Barkas’ potential Celtic exit

It remains to be seen if the move does end up transpiring over the next few days of the January transfer window.

If Celtic are able to send Barkas out on loan, it would be considered a massive boost for the Hoops as well as the player.

At this point of time, it looks very unlikely that Barkas will end up playing significant time for Celtic in the ongoing campaign. Thus, a loan move looks like the right solution for him to play some regular football and hopefully rediscover his form.

At the top of his game, he is without doubt a pretty good goalkeeper. But he has not been able to show that kind of ability in Celtic colours till now.
