Celtic handed surprising Zinedine Ferhat transfer boost

Celtic have been linked with a move for Zinedine Ferhat in recent weeks. The Algerian international currently plays for Ligue 2 side, Nimes and has struggled for playing time this season. But he has already shown that he can perform at the very top level and at 28 years of age, he is in his prime as a footballer. Thus, he could prove to be a solid addition to Ange Postecoglou’s side if the Hoops are able to sign him.

Ferhat’s current deal with Nimes is set to run out next summer and as a result, he is expected to leave the Ligue 2 side in January if the right offer comes in.

While Ferhat might be playing in Ligue 2 right now, he has already prove that he is capable of performing in Ligue 1. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 6 goals and 10 assists in 33 Ligue 1 appearances last season.

And it looks like Celtic have been handed a surprising transfer boost in the race for Ferhat’s signature.

Celtic have been handed a surprising Ferhat transfer boost

There was expected to be quite a bit of interest in Ferhat’s signature, with Saint-Etienne believed to be one of the clubs who were looking closing at the Algerian international.

But as reported by Le10sport, Saint-Etienne have already strengthened on the wings and as a result are no longer in the race to sign Ferhat from Nimes.

Naturally, this has opened up a bigger opportunity for Celtic to get a deal over the line although Montpellier are also believed to be interested in Ferhat.

It remains to be seen how things turn out in the transfer race for the Algerian international. It must be said though that Celtic could certainly do with more options in the wide areas, with players like James Forrest and Mikey Johnston struggling to remain fit for a long time.
