Premiership club want to sign Celtic player on loan

One of Celtic’s biggest problems this season has been their lack of squad depth, which has been left further exposed by their series of injuries to players. As a result, the Hoops were always expected to strengthen Ange Postecoglou’s squad in the January transfer window and they have already done that by bringing in players like Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate early on. More movement is expected around Parkhead though.

While they might not have a lot of squad depth, there are still a few players who have not played a lot of football this season and could do with a spell away from Celtic.

Liam Shaw is one such player. A move for him was agreed last season after he had impressed during his time at Sheffield Wednesday. It has not been smooth sailing for Shaw since then though.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Shaw has made just 2 appearances till now, which have combined for only 74 minutes of football in total. Thus, he could definitely benefit from a loan spell somewhere.

Premiership club are interested in signing the Celtic player on loan

As reported by The Courier, St Johnstone hope to sign Shaw on loan till the end of the season.

Shaw had certainly impressed during his time at Sheffield Wednesday but has not quite found his feet at Celtic. And at this point of time, it does not look like he is at that stage where he will get a lot of chances in the first-team.

Thus, a loan move away might be the right step for the 20-year-old midfielder, who is also capable of playing in defence and had drawn some comparisons to Kristoffer Ajer before arriving at Parkhead.

It took Ajer a loan spell to find his feet in Scottish football though and Shaw could benefit from one as well. And St Johnstone is certainly a tempting destination.
