It is safe to say that Celtic might be headed towards one of their most exciting and important January transfer windows in recent memory. In the summer, the club did make twelve additions to the squad, bringing in ten players on a permanent basis and two on loan with options to buy included. But it is safe to say that Ange Postecoglou’s squad does not have enough depth right now to compete with the Rangers in the Premiership title race.
That has become very clear in the first half of the season. The Hoops did not have a lot of squad depth to begin with and a series of injuries all over the pitch has only left this issue exposed further.
Thankfully, it is believed that they are ready to back Postecoglou in the January transfer window, and it appears that they have already agreed their first move for the upcoming January transfer window.
As reported by Yahoo Japan, it was agreed on December 29 that Daizen Maeda of Yokohama F. Marinos will move to Celtic on a loan deal till the end of the season, with an option to buy included in it.’
Celtic have agreed their first signing of January already
It is safe to say that Maeda could be a terrific addition for Celtic in an area that the club need reinforcements in badly.
Maeda has the ability to play on the wings or as a second striker. On the other hand, Postecoglou has had to scramble to find options up front recently, with Kyogo, Jota, James Forrest, Albian Ajeti, Giorgos Giakoumakis and Karamoko Dembele all struggling with injury problems.
Thus, the addition of Maeda could be a massive boost for Celtic in more ways than one. And it also shows the ambition that the club have when it comes to challenging for the Premiership title.
