Celtic are riding a high at the moment, having won the Scottish League Cup against Hibernian with the help of a Kyogo Furuhashi brace. Thus, the Hoops have returned to trophy winning ways after not having won one in the previous campaign. But this was just the first one of the season and there is a lot left to play for, and there is very little time to reflect or celebrate right now as the game keep coming thick and fast.
And while winning the final was a massive boost for the Hoops, there are problems to take care of as well.
One area that has emerged as a big one recently is central defence. Christopher Jullien has not played a single minute of football this year and it looks like it will end that way, with no fresh update on his return. On the other hand, Stephen Welsh just does not look quite ready to be a starter right now.
Carl Starfelt‘s performances in recent games, especially in the final, might have worried a lot of fans. And finally, Cameron Carter-Vickers has been excellent but he is only on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur right now.
Celtic have one big problem heading into the January transfer window
It is safe to say that the situation is not ideal for Celtic. But surprisingly, there do not seem to be many rumours linking them with centre-backs at the moment.
The club have been linked with Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi in recent times. And while all of them could prove to be solid additions, none of them are centre-backs.
That is an area that Celtic must look to strengthen in though, as both injuries and form are a worry. Let’s see if the club can pull off a surprise.
