Giovanni van Bronckhorst opens up on meeting Celtic’s Ange Postecoglou

It is not often that the Celtic manager and the Rangers manager are pictured together away from the pitch but that is what happened earlier together as an image emerged of Ange Postecoglou and Giovanni van Bronckhorst together at a cafe. Naturally, many wondered about what had led to the meeting between the two and now the Dutchman has opened up on the circumstances which led to it.

One has to admit that both Celtic and the Rangers are in decent form right now. Postecoglou has done a tremendous job since arriving in the summer and will be leading the Hoops into the Scottish League Cup final this Sunday.

On the other hand, Van Bronckhorst has managed to steady the ship at Ibrox since replacing Steven Gerrard, who departed for Aston Villa in the middle of the season. The title race looks well and truly on.

It should not come as a surprise that Van Bronckhorst was asked about the meeting with Postecoglou. And as reported by The Scottish Sun, he revealed:

“We all live in the same area.

“I met him a couple of times at the coffee shop so we were just having breakfast with Ross.

“He came in with his wife, and we had already met, so we didn’t meet for lunch or breakfast, it was more like a coincident occasion.

“So we spoke a little bit about the games we played and I left him after that alone with his wife, we had just finished.

“It looked from the picture like we had a five course meal and were having fun but I think it only lasted for one or two minutes.”

It appears that it was just a chance meeting between the two managers instead of something that was arranged between the two.

Only four points separate the two sides in the Scottish Premiership table at this point of time, with neither of them dropping a single point since October. And unless something unexpected happens over the coming weeks and months, this title race could go right down to the wire.

The biggest disadvantage that Celtic have right now is their squad depth but they will get a big chance to rectify that issue when the transfer window reopens in January. It is believed that the Hoops are getting close to the signings of Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate, and if they can pull it off, it would be a massive boost for the club.
