Bodo/Glimt handed massive blow before facing Celtic

Celtic were drawn against Bodo/Glimt in the knockout play-off round of the UEFA Europa Conference League. And it is safe to say that it is expected to be a tight affair between two teams who have both impressed in Europe this season. Ange Postecoglou’s side gave a great account of themselves while coming up against the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Real Betis and Ferencvaros. On the other hand, the Norwegian side hold a 6-1 win against Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma.

It is one of the toughest draws that Celtic could have been handed, with the back-to-back Norwegian champions capable of giving a tough test to any side on their day. And an away trip to Norway in February is not going to be easy either.

The Norwegian side have been handed a massive blow before the tie though as it looks like Patrick Berg, arguably their best player, is headed out of the club.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Ligue 1 side Lens have reached an agreement to sign Berg from Bodo/Glimt and the move is very close to happening.

Bodo/Glimt handed massive blow before Celtic tie

It is safe to say that this move could significantly weaken Bodo/Glimt heading into their tie against Celtic.

Another thing that one must remember is that Bodo/Glimt’s 2021 league season has come to an end, and when they face Celtic in February, they would still be more than a month away from the 2022 Eliteserien starting. Thus, they are not expected to be in the best shape at that point of time.

Of course, Celtic have several important games to play before they can even think about their Europa Conference League tie against Bodo/Glimt. The next one is set to be played this Sunday as the Hoops face Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup final at Hampden Park.
