Celtic have their fair share of injury worries right now with several of their top stars picking up problems since the start of December. They could not have come at a worse possible time though as the Hoops are set to take on Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup final this Sunday. It is a huge chance for Ange Postecoglou to win his first piece of silverware and for the club to end their trophy drought.
Things are far from ideal for Celtic at the moment with players like Jota, Kyogo, James Forrest and quite a few others still out of action.
The club’s biggest problem right now might be up top with Kyogo, Albian Ajeti and Giorgos Giakoumakis all struggling with injuries. The Greek striker has been out of action for a while and thus, many fans might have hoping for him to get fit in time for the big game. But it looks like he is still quite some time away from returning to first-team action.
As reported by Football Scotland, Postecoglou said:
“ [Georgios] Giakoumakis is still a couple of weeks.”
Giakoumakis is still some time away from returning to Celtic first-team action
When Celtic signed Giakoumakis, there were many hopes that he could be the target man that they have needed for a while.
And it is not hard to understand the excitement around the move. The Greek striker had topped the scoring charts in the Eredivisie last season and by quite some distance.
It is safe to say that he has not been able to replicate that form in the Hoops. He has only scored one since arriving at Celtic and has spent most of his time on the sidelines, as he has struggled to remain match fit for any considerable length of time. Thus, it might not be a bad idea on the part of the club to look for another striker in January.
