Celtic manager gives League Cup final update on Kyogo

The biggest worry that Celtic have right now is the injury status of Kyogo. The Japanese star was injured in the recent game against Real Betis and it is safe to say that it could not have come at a worse time. The League Cup final against Hibernian is just a week away and with Jota also out injured, Ange Postecoglou finds himself in a tough situation.

A lot of questions have been raised about his decision to bring Kyogo on against Real Betis when nothing was riding on the result. But what is done is done and one can only hope that the Japanese star recovers in time.

There have been some positive rumours recently that his injury is not as serious as first feared and that he could return to action sooner than expected. But could he be back in time for the League Cup final?

Even Postecoglou did not have a clear answer to that question. As reported by The Scotsman, the manager said:

“If you ask Kyogo he probably would have played today, if you ask the medical team, they would say he’s out for two or three weeks. I’m kind of taking a stab in the dark in the middle somewhere, but I’ve no idea. I’ll be guided by the medical team and Kyogo. I can’t rule him out for anything at the moment, but you can’t rule him in.”

Could Kyogo return in time for Celtic’s League Cup final?

It does seem like the situation is touch and go at the moment. Thus the big question is, could Kyogo return to fitness in time for the big game next week?

That is unclear but one thing that is for certain is that the situation looks a lot more positive right now than it did yesterday.

When he picked up the hamstring injury against Real Betis, most people probably had given up hope of seeing him feature in the League Cup final against Hibernian. But now, it does feel like there is a chance.

And one thing that we have learned during Postecoglou’s time as Celtic manager is that he likes to keep his cards close to his chest and can spring a selection surprise or two from time to time. Hopefully he will have one up his sleeve next Sunday.
