Celtic handed surprising Kyogo Furuhashi injury update

Celtic were handed a huge worry when Kyogo Furuhashi was forced off the pitch in the midweek Europa League game against Real Betis. With nothing riding on the result of the match, it had looked like the Japanese star was going to get some well-earned rest on the night as he was not named in the starting XI. But Ange Postecoglou decided to bring him on in the very first-half when Albian Ajeti had to do substituted off with an injury.

Many questioned the decision immediately and in hindsight, it proved to be the wrong one as it appeared that Kyogo had picked up a hamstring injury. It could not have come at a worse possible time either with some very important games coming up including the League Cup final against Hibernian.

The fear was that Kyogo could be out of action for several weeks. But now, there appears to be a potential hope for Celtic.

As reported by the Daily Record, Postecoglou said regarding Kyogo’s injury status:

“He’ll get scanned today (Saturday) and I don’t want to put a time frame on it.

“We don’t think it is anything serious but as to whether he will be available for Sunday, we probably won’t know until tomorrow.

“I’ll make a decision then but nothing is confirmed.”

Celtic handed unexpected Kyogo injury hope

It looks like the injury suffered by Kyogo is not nearly as serious as most would have first feared. And while it is unclear when he will return, it might be earlier than first though.

While we await confirmation on the matter, one has to say that this is an unexpected boost for the Hoops, who have several other injury problems to do with right now.

While every game is important right now with how tight the Scottish Premiership title race is at the moment, one can only hope that Kyogo is back before the upcoming League Cup final, which is scheduled for next Sunday.

Otherwise, Celtic might go into one of the biggest games of the season without a recognised striker, with the likes of Giorgos Giakoumakis and Ajeti also dealing with injuries right now.
