Chris Sutton names Celtic star who should replace Kyogo

Celtic were handed the exact scenario that they would have been hoping to avoid when Kyogo was forced off the pitch with an injury against Real Betis with a hamstring injury. With Giorgos Giakoumakis already out on the sidelines and Albian Ajeti picking up an injury earlier in the same game, it is safe to say that Ange Postecoglou has a lot of worries right now, without a fit striker in his squad.

The injuries have come at the worst possible time. We are a little over a week away from the Scottish League Cup final against Hibernian and the Glasgow Derby is scheduled for the turn of the year as well.

Now, one can question Postecoglou’s decision to play Kyogo in a game when nothing was riding on the result. But what is done is done and the focus should now be on Celtic finding ways to navigate through this run of games without a striker.

Chris Sutton appears to believe that Liel Abada could be the man to solve Celtic’s problems up top. He wrote in his column in the Daily Record:

Who does he go with up top? I think it will be Abada. He looked really effective when he moved in against Real Betis and he’s got the speed and movement to slot in for Kyogo.

They are different players, of course but Celtic don’t really play with a traditional No.9.

It’s all about movement, dragging defenders and attacking the middle of the goal.

Abada could be that man but he’ll need help.

Can Abada solve Celtic’s problems at striker?

Abada started the season in brilliant form and was one of Celtic’s standout performers in the first few weeks. Since then, his form has appeared to fade away and he has struggled a bit recently.

That is to be expected though from a player who is just 20 years of age, playing his first season of football in Scotland. Overall, he looks a very promising prospect.

Can he be the player to solve Celtic’s problems up top? We will have to wait and see.

Postecoglou might need to improvise though and play without a striker for the upcoming considering his lack of options at striker as well as the wings. And one can only hope that Abada and Mikey Johnston can carry the goalscoring burden of the club.
