Coming into the game against Real Betis, not many would have expected Celtic to get a win. Not much was riding on the result of the game as the Hoops had no way to make it to the knock out phase of the Europa League. But they had already booked their place in the Europa Conference League and had European football to look forward to even after the group stage came to an end.

Thus, it was not a huge surprise when Ange Postecoglou named a much changed starting XI filled with youngsters and players who had not been first-team regulars this season.

And yet, the Hoops managed to pull off an unlikely 3-2 win on this occasion. Stephen Welsh, Ewan Henderson and David Turnbull were on the scoresheet for Celtic, as they signed off in style from the Europa League.

Later, Postecoglou revealed what he told the players after the game. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, he said while speaking on Celtic’s official YouTube channel:

“You could see how much Betis wanted to win the game, they threw everything at us. We got the win in the end which I think is great credit to the players and great reward for them.

“As I said to them after the game that’s why they train hard every day, that’s why we push them every day, whether they are playing or not. They have to be ready when the opportunity comes to show the best of themselves and I think they did that night.”

There were quite a few players who did grab their chance with both hands and made an impression. What is even more impressive is the fact that they did so against a La Liga side with the quality of Real Betis. This will surely be a confidence boost for many involved on the night.

Of course, it was not all positive for Celtic as they saw Kyogo and Albian Ajeti pick up injuries. And it is safe to say that the problems are starting to mount up for the Hoops in that department.

With the squad not the deepest in the first place, Postecoglou could be left scrambling for options moving forward and Celtic might potentially not have a striker fit enough to start in their upcoming Scottish League Cup final against Hibernian.
