Manuel Pellegrini makes Celtic admission after Real Betis defeat

Celtic pulled off an unexpected win against Real Betis in their final Europa League group stage game. Ange Postecoglou fielder a much changed side filled with youngsters and players who have not been first-team regulars this season but they proved to be good enough to get the win against Manuel Pellegrini’s side, with Stephen Welsh, David Turnbull and Ewan Henderson getting on the scoresheet in a 3-2 win.

It was a huge result for the Hoops, especially considering the fact that Real Betis sit at third in La Liga and came into this game with a win over FC Barcelona.

Thus, the progress that Celtic have made under the management of Ange Postecoglou is clear for all to see. And if they had just managed to hold on to their leads at times, they could have even ended up topping the group. But it is what it is. The Hoops will be heading to the Europa Conference League now.

And Pellegrini admitted that it was just the kind of game that he were expecting against Celtic. As reported by Marca, the Real Betis manager said:

“I was expecting a game like this.”

He also admitted his side were surprised by the early goal:

“They surprised us with the goal after two minutes and the other two were our failures.”

Celtic signed off in style but have a lot of worries as well

Nothing was riding on the result of this game but even then, it is great to get a win against a top European side and this should be a huge confidence boost for the Celtic players.

But they came out of the game with a lot of worries as well with Albian Ajeti and Kyogo both picking up injuries. Giorgos Giakoumakis has been out with an injury for a while as well.

Thus, things are not looking good for Postecoglou’s side at the moment, and they could possibly be without a striker for the next few weeks unless one of them recovers very quickly.
