Ange Postecoglou reveals why Celtic have so many injuries

Celtic have had their fair share of injuries throughout the course of the season. But at the moment, they might be starting to get out of hand to the point where Ange Postecoglou might be left scrambling for options. Since the start of December, we have seen the likes of Jota, Anthony Ralston, Stephen Welsh, James Forrest, Kyogo and Albian Ajeti all picking up problems.

Welsh has since returned but quite a few could be out for longer. Jota looks set to miss the League Cup final, and things are looking worrying for Kyogo instead. If that does happen, Celtic could be without two of their talismans for the big game later this month against Hibernian at Hampden Park.

And Postecoglou appears to believe that the schedule is a major reason behind the number of injuries that his players have picked up recently.

As reported by Sky Sports, when asked about it, the manager said:

“It’s a ridiculous amount of games we are having to play.

“And I guess it’s the way and the manner in which we play our football as well, it’s very demanding on the players. We don’t have the squad yet to cope with that and that’s putting stress on, which we have had to deal with pretty much the whole way through.”

Postecoglou reveals why Celtic have so many injuries at the moment

It is certainly a combination of it all. Yes, Celtic do have a lot of games to play. But that is the case every season when you are competing in so many competitions at the same time.

The squad depth is the bigger issue at the moment. They do not have a lot of options in several areas. As a result, there are many players who have played constant football this season when they have been available.

Jota and Kyogo are great examples of that. They have not had the chance to rest much at all and it appears to have finally caught up to them.

The intense style of football that Celtic play under Postecoglou is another option. And that is why the club must add depth to their squad as soon as possible. January provides them with a good opportunity to do that.
