Major details emerge about Yosuke Ideguchi to Celtic transfer

Celtic have been linked with several J1 League stars in recent times as it is quite clear that Ange Postecoglou’s side need to increase their squad depth. Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate have been rumoured with a Parkhead switch for a while now. The name of Yosuke Ideguchi has only emerged over the past week but that might be the move that the Hoops pull off the quickest.

The Gamba Osaka midfielder has already had a stint in Europe. He was considered the next big thing in Japanese football not too long ago. As a result, he broke into the Japan national team set up very early on in his career and even got himself a Leeds United move.

Things did not go to plan after that though. Ideguchi did not make a single appearance for Leeds United and had unsuccessful loan stints at clubs in Germany and Spain. Thus, the move ended up halting his progress. But now, it looks like he might get a second chance in Europe.

As reported by Yahoo Japan, a transfer fee over €1 million (around 128 million Yen) has been accepted for Ideguchi. The plan is to travel to the UK and undergo a medical by the end of the year.

Celtic appear to be closing in on Ideguchi transfer

It does look like Celtic are closing in on a move for Ideguchi. There are quite a few question marks surrounding the potential transfer though.

Ideguchi was one of the brightest prospects in Japanese football at one point of time but has not been able to fulfil his potential.

There is no question about his ability though and his strengths do appear to suit Postecoglou’s style of football. Thus, there is the possibility that this could prove to be a transfer masterstroke. On the other hand, if it does not, Celtic are not taking a huge risk in the first place.
