Celtic are expected to have a big January transfer window. Ange Postecoglou’s side have done a great job till now but this squad still needs a lot of strengthening before they can put up a title challenge. With the J1 League season coming to an end recently, it should come as no surprise that the Hoops have been linked with players from Japan. In fact, they might even have a triple deal in their sights.
The three players who have been linked with a Celtic move this January are Yokohama F. Marinos’ Daizen Maeda, Kawasaki Frontale’s Reo Hatate and Gamba Osaka’s Yosuke Ideguchi.
Maeda and Hatate have been linked with a Parkhead switch for quite some time now while the Ideguchi rumours have emerged only recently.
There are still a lot of questions around any potential move though, with one of the big points being what kind of a transfer fee it would take to bring them to Celtic. Dan Orlowitz has given an update on what the Japanese media have been reporting about the move. The journalist tweeted out:
Can Celtic pull of the triple transfer deal for Maeda, Hatate and Ideguchi?
It is safe to say that all three could turn out to be solid signings on the part of Celtic. Both Maeda and Hatate have been standout performers in the J1 League in recent times.
On the other hand, Ideguchi had enjoyed a meteoric rise during his early career and had broken into the Japanese national team set up at a very young age. A move to Leeds United did not work out though and his development appeared to stall. He has since then returned to Japan and found his feet again at Gamba Osaka. Now, he could be looking to give Europe another try.
It will be interesting to see whether Celtic can pull off all three moves in January. Let’s see what the future holds.
