Jeremie Frimpong was a revelation for Celtic to say the least. He arrived at the club in the summer of 2019 from Manchester City and most would have considered the then teenager as one of the Hoops’ projects signings. It was not long before he was a regular part of Neil Lennon’s plans though and within a few months, the Dutch youngster had nailed down his spot in the starting XI.
After a season-and-a-half at Celtic, he moved to Bayer Leverkusen for a transfer fee believed to be around €11.5 million and he has not looked back since.
Frimpong has already established himself as one of the best in his position in the Bundesliga and is being linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe. It is easy to forget that he is still just 20 years of age, and it is safe to say that the sky is the limit for him.
Frimpong has made a big claim about his time at Celtic though. As reported by Kicker, he said regarding his time at Parkhead:
“I did things that I got away with at Celtic. But in Germany you play against much better opponents of course. Those were things that you can’t do here.”
Frimpong makes massive admission about his time at Celtic
It goes without saying that Frimpong was a big hit at Celtic and there is a reason that Bayer Leverkusen made a big move to sign him so early on in his career.
And to be honest, the move seems to be working out fine. Frimpong is already a regular in the Bayer Leverkusen starting XI and has been one of the standout performers in the Bundesliga this season till now.
But during his time at Celtic, there were a lot of questions which were raised about the defensive side of his game.
Now, there is no denying the fact that the Bundesliga will see him face tougher opponents week in and week out than he did in Scotland. It is wonderful to see how well he has adapted and we can only wish him the best of luck.
