Squad depth has always been Celtic’s Achilles’ heel this season and now, it looks like they are well and truly in trouble. December was always going to be a tough month for Ange Postecoglou’s side and they probably made the worst possible start in terms of injuries, as Jota, Anthony Ralston and Stephen Welsh all were forced off the pitch against Hearts.
It is safe to say that Postecoglou has a lot of worries on his hands right now and the result might have become secondary on this night.
It was a 1-0 win for the Hoops against a very impressive Hearts side, but it does not taste nearly as sweet as it normally.
All eyes will be towards injury news over the coming days as one can expect the players to be assessed and we will then learn the extent of things. With the games coming thick and fast this month though, one can only hope that more players don’t end up getting injured over the coming weeks.
3 things we learned from Celtic vs Hearts: Kyogo, Jota and more
Here are three things we learned from the game between Celtic and Hearts, as the Hoops might have suffered a big blow to their Premiership hopes:
Kyogo breaks his goalless streak
By his own high standards, Kyogo was going through a goalless run. The Japanese superstar had not found the back of the net in the past three games although he had made important contributions despite that.
But it is safe to say that he would be delighted to see his name back on the score sheet once again, finding the back of the net against Hearts in what turned out to be the winner on this occasion.
It was a big goal to say the least and handed Postecoglou’s side all three points, thereby keeping up the pressure on the Rangers while also extending the gap with Hearts.
