Celtic told to make move for £5 million Premiership left-back

Left-back is an area that has been a worry for Celtic for a long-time now. Kieran Tierney left the club in the summer of 2019 in a record move to join Arsenal. Since then though, the Hoops have not been able to find a proper replacement for him in their starting XI. Several players have come in but nobody has quite managed to nail down their spot in the team for any considerable length of time.

At the moment, Josip Juranovic is doing pretty well at left-back. But he is a natural right-back. And the Croatian international would be expected to move positions in the future.

Thus, it would not be a bad idea on the part of Celtic to go for a left-back in the near future. And they have been told to make a move for Hibernian’s Josh Doig.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Charlie Nicholas wrote in his column in the Scottish Daily Express [30/11, page 56]:

“Celtic need three signings in the January transfer window and my top target would be Josh Doig. There is no doubt Ange Postecoglou is making good progress but they still need a bit more, especially defensively.

“They need a left-back and I would go for Doig at Hibs. He has just signed a new contract so they would need to cough up a decent transfer fee but he is one for the future. I see him in the Kieran Tierney mould and if he keeps developing he will get better and better.”

Celtic told to make a move for Hibernian’s Doig

Doig has made quite the mark in the Premiership already despite being just 19 years of age. And the left-back was expected to depart Hibernian in the summer. But in a surprising turn of events, he went on to sign a long-term contract extension with the club recently.

In the summer, he was believed to have been rated at a transfer fee around £5 million, which is quite significant for a player of his experience.

The last rising left-back that Celtic did not end up making a move for though was Aaron Hickey and it is safe to say that he has gone to enjoy a good spell at Bologna, and is already been linked with the likes of Napoli and AC Milan among others. Thus, they should definitely give a thought to a potential move to bring the Hibernian youngster to Parkhead.
