Celtic coach turned down chance to become manager

Following his arrival in the summer, Ange Postecoglou has brought a sense of stability at Celtic. That was completely missing in the previous season, both on and off the pitch. For a long time, it was clear that Neil Lennon was not going to remain the club’s manager for long and then, John Kennedy was also expected to be replaced as the caretaker manager by the end of the campaign, which is what happened.

On the pitch, Celtic’s best playing XI was not clear with a number of players struggling for both form and fitness.

Fortunately, that has changed under the management of Postecoglou, with stability being restored in the dug out and on the pitch.

There was a fear of that being disrupted though as it emerged that Hartlepool United were looking to bring in Gavin Strachan as the club’s manager. He had represented the club during his playing career. But it appears that the Celtic coach has turned down the opportunity to remain at Parkhead. As tweeted out by journalist Alan Nixon:

Strachan has turned down the move in order to remain at Celtic

Strachan has not been a very popular figure amongst the Celtic fans since his arrival. A huge part of that was almost out of his control though.

His arrival coincided with the club’s form taking a downturn. Celtic ultimately finished 25 points behind the Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table and without a single trophy across all competitions, which has been rare for the club in recent times.

As a result, it is not hard to see why there were calls from the supporters to replace the entire backroom staff and completely start afresh.

But the club decided to stick with them even when Postecoglou arrived and to be honest, Celtic are doing quite well right now, having shown a lot of improvement over the past several months as it looks like they are capable of putting up a title challenge this season if they can remain fit.
