Former Rangers star makes surprising Celtic title claim

At the start of the campaign, it had looked like Celtic were in for another tough campaign. The start under the management of Ange Postecoglou had been very shaky and questions were cropping up around the future of the manager even that early on. But it is safe to say that the Hoops have steadied the ship and then some. They are clearly looking like the team in form in Scottish football right now.

And while they do not have a deep squad, they are doing brilliantly with the options that they do have on their hands at the moment.

It is safe to say that Celtic are very much in the title race right now, and are not even playing at their best at the moment.

But Derek McInnes does not believe that the Hoops have enough to win the Scottish Premiership title this season unless they make more additions to their squad in the upcoming January transfer window. As reported by Football Scotland, the former Rangers star wrote in his Mail on Sunday column:

“Postecoglou has earned himself a place in a cup final, a chance to win his first trophy before the turn of the year. But, in January, he needs the Celtic board to back him.

“Unless they make improvements, add more quality to the squad, then no matter how good he is, I just don’t see them having enough to wrest the title away from Rangers.”

Celtic do need to make additions but are very much in the title race

Celtic look like they have a good chance of winning the title this season if they can just stay away from injuries. Unfortunately, that has not been the case till now. When most of the squad has been available, Postecoglou’s side have looked superb. And even at the moment, with some very important players missing for a while, they are doing just enough to grind out results. On top of that, the Rangers have not looked at their best in recent times either.

Thus, it is safe to say that they are very much in the title race already. But yes, additions in January will definitely be a big help in more ways than one.

Hopefully, they will make those needed additions when the transfer window reopens with several interesting players being linked with the club.
