Former Celtic star completes return after over 21 months

Celtic are doing well at the moment but it is safe to say that there are still several areas in the squad which need improving. One of those areas is their defence. While they have appeared to do better at the back in recent times, they still appear vulnerable at times, especially under pressure situations. The 3-2 defeat at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen in midweek was a great example of that.

For a large portion of the game, it had looked like Ange Postecoglou’s side were headed for a historic win away in Germany. But ultimately, they could not get over the line. The German side scored two late goals to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat while Celtic had very little to show for what was a good performance.

Celtic had been linked with several defenders in the summer. One of them was a potential move to bring back Jozo Simunovic. Of course, that did not happen and since then he has gone on to join HNK Gorica.

Simunovic had played his last match for Celtic in early 2020 and his run at the club came to an end with the end of the 2019/20 campaign. Since then, he had not been able to find a new club before joining HNK Gorica last month.

Former Celtic star returns to the pitch after over 21 months

Simunovic made his returned to the pitch after a long time as he featured for 90 minutes for HNK Gorica against NK Hrvatski.

This is a massive boost for the defender, who had not played first-team football for almost two years. Now, he will be hoping to get back into rhythm and make an impact for the Croatian side.

Simunovic had a lot of injuries during his time at Celtic, which is the biggest reason he had gotten lost in the shuffle at Parkhead. Still just 27 years of age though, we can only hope that he has been to put the injury problems behind him and goes on to enjoy a great career from here on forward.
