Celtic star set to receive surprise contract extension

Celtic find themselves in a very good position at the moment, with Ange Postecoglou’s side not having lost in nine games, with eight of them being wins. And on top of that, they are expected to strengthen their squad in the upcoming January transfer window, which is very exciting news for the fans and could set them up for a Scottish Premiership title challenge this season.

But it is not just new players that they might be looking to bring in. The Hoops seem to be interested in extending the current deals of some of the players already at the club as well. And one of them might come as a surprise to many.

Scott Bain has not been in the first-team picture much ever since the arrival of Joe Hart in the summer, who has nailed down his spot between the posts.

But as reported by the Scottish Daily Express, Celtic are set to hand Bain a contract extension as Postecoglou has been impressed with him since he took over the Parkhead job in the summer.

Celtic look set to hand Bain a contract extension

Bain has been at Celtic for a while now but has never quite managed to make the first-team gloves his own for an extended period of time.

Now 30 years of age, his current deal is set to run out in the summer of 2023 and it is a bit of a surprise to be honest that Celtic are looking to extend his current deal already considering that he has barely featured for the club in recent times.

But maybe he has made an impression on Postecoglou, who might view him as a solid back-up goalkeeper to Hart.

On the other hand, Vasilis Barkas has been linked with a move away from Celtic this January, just one-and-a-half season after arriving from AEK Athens in a deal believed to be around £4.5 million.
