Ange Postecoglou pays tribute to Celtic fans after Hampden Park win

Just months after arriving at Parkhead, Ange Postecoglou has already guided Celtic to a final. A goal from James Forrest after coming off the bench was enough to hand the Hoops a 1-0 win over defending champions St Johnstone and book their place in the Scottish League Cup final. And while that game might be a long time away, fans must already be marking their calendars for their Hampden Park date in December.

Last season was difficult for Celtic. Not only did they lose the Premiership title race to the Rangers by 25 points but they could not deliver in any other competition either, finishing the season trophyless and not even reaching a final, which has been rare for the club in recent times.

Thus, this season has been all about rebuilding and getting back to the top of Scottish football. As a result, this win over St Johnstone is a huge step in the right direction for Postecoglou’s side.

The Celtic manager paid tribute to the supporters after the game. As reported by the Daily Record, he said:

“Today was important for our supporters because I thought they were outstanding. The atmosphere was brilliant.

“This is where they want to be as well, getting behind their team in big games, on a big stage.”

Postecoglou pays tribute to the fans as Celtic make League Cup final

It is safe to say that the fans were brilliant on this occasion and one can expect them to be even better next time around at Hampden Park, when Celtic play in the League Cup final.

On that occasion, they will be playing either the Rangers or Hibernian, with the second League Cup semi-final yet to be played. And it remains to be seen what the result of that game turns out to be.

One thing is for sure, if Postecoglou’s side can keep performing like they have in recent weeks, they should be confident of their chances, not matter who they end up facing in the final at Hampden Park next month.
