Celtic will have a tough task on their hands when they take on St Johnstone in the Scottish League Cup semi-final at Hampden Park. Callum Davidson’s side are the defending champions coming into the game, having done the Cup double last year and as a result, they are expected to put up a tough challenge against Ange Postecoglou’s in-form side, who have won seven of their previous eight games across all competitions.
Both clubs have reason to be confident coming into the game. For Postecoglou, this is a huge opportunity to guide Celtic to their first final under his management.
But at the same time, losing this game could possibly derail the momentum that the Hoops have built up over the past several weeks. Thus, it is safe to say that this could prove to be a very interesting tie.
And with the likes of Tom Rogic, Carl Starfelt and Giorgos Giakoumakis expected to miss out, it will be interesting to see how Celtic line up.
Celtic Predicted XI vs St Johnstone: Scottish League Cup semi-final
Here’s how we think Ange Postecoglou will line Celtic up when they take on St Johnstone in the Scottish League Cup semi-final at Hampden Park:
Goalkeeper: Joe Hart
There is no question about the man between the posts as Hart is almost undroppable at this point of time.
Defenders: Anthony Ralston, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Stephen Welsh, Josip Juranovic
It is expected that Postecoglou will stick with Ralston at right-back and Juranovic at left-back, considering the Scottish star’s brilliant form throughout the course of the season.
The more interesting decision was regarding centre-back. Welsh had limped off while featuring for Scotland under-21s during the international break and it could have been a massive worry, but it looks like that he will be fine to play on the weekend and resume his partnership with Carter-Vickers in the heart of the defence.
