Celtic might have massive Rangers worry after Gerrard exit

A lot has changed over this international break and it might end up having a big impact on Celtic’s title challenge. Ange Postecoglou’s side are the in-form team in Scottish football at the moment, having won seven of their previous eight games across all competitions. On the other hand, the Rangers find themselves in a sticky situation with Steven Gerrard having left the club in order to become the Aston Villa manager.

The Ibrox side have moved quickly though and brought in Giovanni van Bronckhorst as his replacement. The former Rangers star has managed Feyenoord and Guangzhou City FC in the past.

This could be a dual worry for Celtic. Firstly, the Rangers had not been in good form this season and at times it did look like they were struggling. It remains to be seen what kind of an effect the arrival of Van Bronckhorst ends up having on them. It is very possible that their form could experience a new manager bounce.

Secondly, all things considered, Van Bronckhorst is a more accomplished manager than Gerrard, who won only one trophy during his time in Scotland, at this moment and he enjoyed quite a bit of success with Feyenoord. Thus, it is possible that the Rangers might have improved overall through the change.

Celtic might have massive Rangers worry

Of course, only time will tell what kind of an effect the arrival of Van Bronckhorst will end up having. It must be pointed out that his time in China was not a success at all.

For Celtic, the best way to go forward would be to focus on themselves. The Hoops have shown tremendous progress since the start of the season and are expected to make further additions to their squad in January as well.

Thus, if Celtic can continue to perform and improve like they have over the past month or so, they will be in the Scottish Premiership title picture towards the end of the season, no matter what effect Van Bronckhorst’s arrival has on the Rangers.
