St Johnstone confirm blow before semi-final vs Celtic

The upcoming League Cup semi-final between Celtic and St Johnstone is going to be very important for Ange Postecoglou’s side. It provides the new manager the chance to guide the Hoops to their first final under him. Interestingly, St Johnstone will be the defending champions going into the game, having won a historic cup double last season.

Celtic are very much the team in form at the moment though, having won seven of their last eight games across all competitions. And they enjoyed a 2-0 win over St Johnstone last month as well.

Thus, Postecoglou’s side should be confident going into the League Cup semi-final. On the other hand, it looks like St Johnstone have been handed a worry.

Callum Davidson has confirmed that Stevie May will be out of action until Christmas time, in what will be a massive blow for the defending League Cup champions. As reported by The Courier, the St Johnstone manager said:

“Stevie has tweaked his knee ligament so has been for a scan and will be out until Christmas time.

“It’s a blow for us because he’s a key player in an important area of the team and we’ll miss him a lot.”

St Johnstone star injured before League Cup semi-final against Celtic

This promises to be a big game for Celtic in more ways than one. Postecoglou’s side have been able to build up some impressive momentum over the course of the last month or so and appear to be the in form team in Scotland at the moment.

A win over St Johnstone will see them book their place in the League Cup final and will only act as another confidence booster for a team that is hitting form at the right moment. A defeat could very possibly have the completely opposite effect though and undo a lot of the good work that has been done over the past several weeks.

Thus, this will be a game that Celtic need to get a win in. They should be confident of their chances. But anything can happen in football, and St Johnstone won the Cup double last season for a reason. Davidson’s side can never be counted out.
