Former Celtic star’s brilliant tweet after Steven Gerrard exit

Former Celtic star, Chris Sutton, has sent out a brilliant tweet after Steven Gerrard departed the Rangers to become the Aston Villa manager. The move just goes on to say how quickly things can change in football and the Scottish Premiership title race is now more open than ever.

In fact, the Hoops were already the team with momentum on their side, having won seven and drawn one of their previous eight games across all competitions. And now, with the Rangers needing to find a new manager, this might be a great opportunity for Celtic to cut down the gap further, and maybe even take a lead of their own in the Premiership.

Of course, there is still a long way to go but at the moment, things are looking up for Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic in multiple aspects.

Sutton, who has found great success as a pundit after retirement, tweeted out following Gerrard’s Rangers exit, including a subtle reminder that Callum Davidson won more trophies:

Celtic must remain focussed on themselves despite Gerrard exit

Gerrard might have led the Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title and stopped Celtic from doing the Ten, but at the end of the day, it was the only title that he won.

A big problem that the Rangers could face though, is finding a new manager whose strengths will complement those of the squad that Gerrard assembled at Ibrox.

On the other hand, for Celtic, it is all about remaining focused on the task at hand and not thinking about what is going on elsewhere. At the end of the day, it is hard to predict what kind of an effect a managerial change can have. One must remember that the last two Champions League winners had changed managers in the middle of their campaigns.

The Hoops have shown tremendous progress over the past month or so, and now, they will need to find a way to keep improving. The January transfer window provides a great opportunity to help in that regard with the club expected to strengthen their squad further.
