Celtic’s Kyogo suffers nightmare on international duty

Kyogo has arguably been Celtic’s best player this season and he is easily one of the most important members of Ange Postecoglou’s team right now. Thus, they will be hoping that his international duty with the Japan national team goes smoothly and he returns to Parkhead, fit and in form. He has not enjoyed a good start to this international break though.

Kyogo has been in brilliant form for Celtic. According to Transfermarkt, he has scored 13 goals and provided 3 assists in 18 appearances for the Hoops. Thus, it is not surprise that he has been called up to the Japan squad once again.

Japan face Vietnam and Oman in their two World Cup qualifiers during this international break. The travel has turned out to be a nightmare though for a few of their players, including Celtic’s Kyogo.

As reported by The National, the Japanese FA chartered a plane for their 11 Europe-based players, in order to fly from Amsterdam to Vietnam, with a refuelling stop in Russia. But the aircraft faced a problem while refuelling and was forced to wait in Russia for ten hours before it could take off again. The players were not even allowed to leave the aircraft and had to stay on board. As a result, Kyogo and his Japanese teammates missed their training session and were travelling for almost a full day.

Celtic’s Kyogo suffers nightmare while on international duty

It is safe to say that the circumstances were far from ideal and it remains to be seen how things turn out for the Japan national team in their upcoming game against Vietnam.

It is very possible that Kyogo could end up getting a rest for the game after such a long journey. And that could possibly be viewed by Celtic fans as a positive.

Whatever maybe the case, we can only wish Kyogo and the Japan national team the best of luck for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers and hope that the Celtic star has a good international break.
