‘Celtic fans will be buzzing’ update on Gerrard quitting Rangers for Aston Villa – pundit

Celtic fans will be “buzzing” if Steven Gerrard quits Rangers to become the new Aston Villa manager, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted Gerrard would be a “major loss” for Rangers and would hand their Old Firm rivals a big boost.

A source told Football Insider yesterday (November 9) the 41-year-old is ready to quit Ibrox and is prepared to hold talks with Villa.

The source updated today (November 10) Villa are now confident of completing the appointment by Sunday after late-night talks.

He would leave Rangers four points above Celtic in the Scottish Premiership after 13 games played.

However, the Gers have not reached the fluid heights of last season while Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic are now eight games unbeaten in all competitions.

Asked whether Gerrard quitting Ibrox would hand the Hoops a boost in the title race, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “100 per cent.

“I’m sure Celtic fans will be buzzing if Steven Gerrard turned around and took the Villa job. The turnaround he has been a part of at Rangers has been outstanding.

“It would be a major, major loss for Rangers if he did leave.

“I’m sure Celtic will keep an eye out on that one.”

Last season, Gerrard’s Rangers had wrapped up the Scottish Premiership title in March and they ended their unbeaten campaign 25 points clear of Celtic.

In Gerrard‘s only meeting with Postecoglou this season, the Gers beat the Bhoys 1-0 at Ibrox at the end of August.
