Celtic: 3 potential free agents the club should target next summer

Considering the current circumstances, the free agent market could be a good place for Celtic to look towards when it comes to signing players in the upcoming summer transfer window. The club have not been afraid to dip into it in recent times although their recent record has been a bit hit and miss when it comes to signing players on free transfers.

This summer, we saw Celtic bring in James McCarthy on a free transfer and to be honest, the move has not worked out till now.

The midfielder has struggled for both form and fitness till now. And while on top of his game he was a star in the Premier League, McCarthy has not been able to make his mark since arriving at Celtic.

That does not mean that the Hoops should shy away from making free agent signings in the future. In fact, a few good deals might be available next summer.

The one that got away. Celtic had signed Teemu Pukki when he was in his early 20s. He was not quite able to make his mark at Parkhead though and would end up leaving after a short spell.

Since then though, he has proven himself to be a consistent goalscorer. Pukki enjoyed a great time at Brondby which saw him earn a move to Norwich City. And during his time with The Canaries, he has proven himself to be a tremendous striker in the Championship, crossing the 25-goal mark on both his seasons in the second division of English football and getting them promoted to the Premier League.

Both times though, Norwich City have struggled in the Premier League. And Pukki’s current deal is set to run out next summer. There is believed to be an option for a further year but it remains to be seen what happens regarding that, with Norwich City looking like one of the top contenders for relegation this season.
