Celtic manager targeting another market along with Japan

Celtic fans must be excited with what they have seen from the team recently. The Hoops are on a good run of form, having won six of their past seven games across all competitions, and drawing the other one. As a result, Ange Postecoglou’s side have climbed up from sixth to second in the Scottish Premiership table while their Europa League chances are well and truly alive as well.

But, it is clear that the squad depth at Celtic is not great right now. And they will have to make additions in January if they are to continue performing at a top level through the course of the season. Otherwise, we have already seen what kind of an impact injuries to a few of their top stars can have on this side.

Celtic have always been expected to look towards Japan for potential signings in January. Their J1 League season will be over by that point of time. And the success of Kyogo since arriving has only made it more likely.

It might not only be J1 League talents that the Hoops look towards though. While speaking on the Record Celtic Podcast and as reported by the Daily Record, Scott Burns said:

“There will be two or three others that come in. I know he’s looking strongly at the English market and he can now get eyes on his own British-style targets as well as the Japanese market which he obviously knows well.”

This does seem like a good approach to have. One cannot expect every player to come in from Japan, no matter how talented, and quickly adjust to Scottish football like Kyogo has.

Thus, it would be wise on the part of the club to sign players who are used to playing a similar style of football. Thus, the Premier League and the Championship, and even League One, have a number of players who can prove to be good signings for Celtic.

What is most encouraging is the fact that the Hoops are aiming to strengthen their squad further in January. That is certainly the right step to take, as they look to rebuild this team and hopefully challenge for titles.
