Celtic already in negotiations for Japanese midfielder

Celtic are expected to look towards Japan in the January transfer window, which is natural considering the time Ange Postecoglou spent there managing Yokohama F. Marinos. The Daizen Maeda rumours have already done the rounds and now, it looks like the Hoops have begun negotiations with a Japanese midfielder as well.

Midfield is a position that Celtic will need to improve in in January. The midfield trio of Callum McGregor, Tom Rogic and David Turnbull appeared to be playing well together recently but there is not a lot of depth beyond them. And with the Australian picking up an injury, Postecoglou has his worries there at the moment.

It looks like Celtic have their eyes on Kawasaki Frontale star Reo Hatate and could be looking to bring him to Parkhead in January.

As reported by Football Scotland, the two clubs have already begun negotiations along with Hatate’ agent. And Celtic view the versatile star as a midfield option.

Celtic have reportedly already begun negotiations for Hatate

Rumours broke around social media linking Celtic to Hatate earlier today and now, it looks like the Hoops have already begun negotiations for the Japanese star.

Hatate plays for back-to-back J1 League champions, Kawasaki Frontale, and Postecoglou should be very aware of the 23-year-old.

The one thing that strikes one about Hatate immediately is his incredible versatility. While he is mostly regarded as a midfielder, he has also played a lot at left-back this season, is capable of playing on the wings as well and also at right-back. That is simply brilliant and could be a huge asset to any team.

Now, it remains to be seen if Celtic are able to sign Hatate from Kawasaki Frontale. His current deal with them is believed to expire at the end of next January but the Hoops could potentially pay a small fee to bring him in a bit earlier.
