Carter-Vickers facing Celtic axe as training ground photos emerge – Scottish pundit

Alex McLeish has suggested Cameron Carter-Vickers could be axed to bring Christopher Jullien back into the Celtic starting XI.

The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Ange Postecoglou would want the 28-year-old’s experience back in the side as soon as possible.

As pictured on Monday (18th October) by SNS Group, via the Daily Record, Jullien is back in training after his lengthy injury layoff.

The Frenchman has not featured for the Bhoys since suffering a serious knee injury late last year.

Summer signings Carl Starfelt, 26, and Carter-Vickers, 23, have been mainstays at the heart of the defence in his absence.

McLeish insisted all the centre-backs would benefit from Jullien’s return to the training ground.

However, he suggested the younger Carter-Vickers could be axed to bring the experienced head back into the starting XI.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Jullien, how long has he been at Celtic now, a couple of years?

“He knows what the club’s all about. I’m pretty sure, like any top pro, he’ll be happy to give advice to the younger players. Especially at Celtic, with the stage the Celtic players are at in their careers, they really are rookies.

“Therefore, it’s brilliant to have a mentor above you. Back in my day I had guys like Willie Miller there and Stuart Kennedy when I was a young guy. there.

“These fellas definitely helped me in the defensive side of the game. Obviously, what it takes to win the games and how good a feeling that is.

“The bottom line is they probably want Jullien back in the team. It will probably be at the expense of one of these young guys.

“If he’s a guy they can look up to then it’s all well and good.”
