Former Celtic star finally signs with a new club after a year

Celtic have had their fair share of injury worries in recent times, which have been magnified by the fact that their squad is not the deepest at the moment. One area of worry has been their defence with Christopher Jullien out of action for a long time due to injury.

In fact, the French defender has not featured a single time this year although it was initially believed that he would only be out for four months or so.

At the moment, Carl Starfelt, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Stephen Welsh appear to be competing for the centre-back spots while the likes of Osaze Urhoghide, Liam Scales, Nir Bitton and Dane Murray can be possible options as well if the situation calls for it.

Interestingly, before the move for Carter-Vickers was completed, Celtic were being linked with a move to bring back Jozo Simunovic, who was a free agent at that point. That did not materialise but after spending over a year without a club, the defender has finally signed for HNK Gorica. He tweeted out:

Simunovic signs with a new club more than a year after leaving Celtic

Simunovic spent a long time with Celtic. And he was an important player for the Hoops at one point of time. But injuries meant that he barely featured towards the end of his five-season run at Parkhead. He will forever be remembered for his tackle on Kenny Miller though.

After leaving Celtic in the summer of 2020, Simunovic spent more than a year without a club before signing for HNK Gorica.

Celtic fans will be familiar with the name of the Croatian club, having been linked with Kristijan Lovric in recent times.

At 27 years of age, Simunovic can still have years of football left in him if he can remain fit. We can only wish him the best moving forward and hope that he has a successful time with HNK Gorica.
